Vielmetter Los Angeles invites you to join artist Edgar Arceneaux for a two part closing event encompassing a walkthrough of his exhibition We Are Gods, a film screening of I Told Jesus, Change My Name and a conversation to follow.

Part One
We Are Gods Exhibition Walkthrough
Arceneaux will lead a conversation through his exhibition focusing on the themes of the show and the skinning the mirror process that he created.

Part Two
Film Screening of I Told Jesus, Change My Name
Following the walkthrough we will present a screening of Edgar Arceneaux’s short film I Told Jesus, Change My Name, (2012) with a conversation to follow.

Arceneaux’s film is staged inside the artist’s studio, a two-story building in the backyard of his home, filled with works for this show in varied stages of construction. In the center of this open space is a woman singing the song  I Told Jesus, Change My Name, Merc Arceneaux Sr., the artist’s late mother. Her voice, no longer trained as it was fifty years ago, remains an expression of indefinable qualities of warmth and the deep yearning for shared recognition of human suffering. Now into her seventies, Merc’s song pleads for change in some form, without the resolve of ever knowing into what future.

After the film, Arceneaux will lead a conversation about how his late mother’s battle with dementia influenced the creation of his first Skinning the Mirror series.

Light refreshments will be provided.
