About

Vielmetter Los Angeles is pleased to announce a presentation of Kim Dingle’s “Home Depot Coloring Book” paintings on Gallery Platform LA.Dingle began making this series of paintings in 2017, utilizing OSB board, a utilitarian equivalent to compressed plywood. Recognizing the creative potential within the board’s patterns Dingle colors in the ready-made strands, creating inherent and endless compositions — of which the artist insists; anyone can do.

“There were OSB board leftovers in the studio after building a few new walls.

Oriented strand board (Home Depot) is stronger than plywood.
Looking at them intensely I began to see the explosive beauty in the patterns of different wood chips and shavings – all random. There was depth.
I started coloring.
At first I thought I could use an assistant to paint what seemed like billions of strands but then realized there were color and brushwork choices to be made every few seconds.
You do it.
Make sure to really seal the wood before you start.
If it looks really good you can sign my name on the back if you want.”
