Lyne Lapointe (b.1957 Montreal, QC, Canada) is a multidisciplinary artist whose influence has been felt in artistic, feminist, and queer circles, as well as in the field of installation art and pictorial practices involving collage techniques with extraordinary craftsmanship. Driven by what she terms “an archaeology of memory,” her artistic practice involves what has always fascinated her: female desire, popular and historical sources, nature, animal and human imagery, and, by extension, the precarious nature of the visible and invisible, at the limits of the material and the perceptible.
For over forty years, the artist has exhibited her work in Canada, the United States, Brazil, and Europe. She has distinguished herself in prestigious settings such as the São Paulo Biennial, the New Museum in New York, and the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, which organized a major survey exhibition that toured across Canada and abroad, to La Rochelle in France. Other prominent institutions have acquired her work throughout her career, including the Brown University Art Museum in Providence, the List Visual Arts Center in Cambridge, the National Gallery of Canada, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
A documentary feature film, entitled Lyne Lapointe: The Spirit of Matter, premiered at the 2024 International Festival of Films on Art (Le FIFA) in Montreal and Québec City, and later screened in New York at the 2025 NYC Independent Film Festival.
