Press Release
Los Angeles–based painter Sarah Cain presents a large-scale, site-responsive installation at Elk Camp on Snowmass Mountain for the 2017–18 ski season. This marks the twelfth-consecutive year of the AAM’s Art in Unexpected Places partnership with Aspen Skiing Company. Cain’s abstract work, titled Mountain Song, features a variety of perspectives created through her unconventional use of canvases layered with patterns, textures, and color. The piece’s connection with music is evident in the artist’s lyrical, energetic improvisational approach. Cain takes risks through her delicate balance of disorder and control, resulting in explosive compositions. Evoking the vibrancy associated with California, Mountain Song is a spirited event unfolding before the viewer.
AAM exhibitions are made possible by the Marx Exhibition Fund. General exhibition support is provided by the Toby Devan Lewis Visiting Artist Fund.
Sarah Cain’s exhibition is commissioned by the Aspen Art Museum in collaboration with the Aspen Skiing Company.
