The Fear Index

Glynn creates sculpture and performance using epic historical narratives, cultural artifacts, and monumental architecture to explore the potential for change in the present tense. Her practice activates objects through performance, changing materials to trace shifts in cultural value, and embodying the rise and fall of empires through cycles of actions and object production.

Based on interviews with professionals in the financial sector, Glynn’s interactive performance explores volatility and risk. Dancers move in response to sales, data points and traffic at the fair, probing the commodification of uncertainty and the impulse to quantify human emotion. In partnership with Delfina Foundation.

Liz Glynn is a Los Angeles-based artist working between sculpture and performance. Recent solo projects include The Archaeology of Another Possible Future currently on view at MASS MoCA; Open House, with the Public Art Fund, NYC, and The Myth of Singularity at LACMA, Los Angeles. Her work has been presented at The New Museum, NYC; the Barbican Centre, London; the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; and the Petit Palais, Paris, among others.
