Vielmetter Los Angeles invites guests to join us on January 25th at 2pm for a conversation between artist Mario Joyce and curator Dominique Clayton on the occasion of Joyce’s solo exhibition Spirit, Spirit on view through January 25th.

Mario Joyce (b. 1985) lives and works in Los Angeles. Joyce is self-taught and has participated in several residencies including, Sointula House Residency, Sointula, BC (2024); Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Skowhegan, ME (2023); Pratt Forward, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY (2022); La Brea Studio Residency, Los Angeles, CA (2021). His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at UTA Artist Space, Los Angeles, CA (2024); Sakhile&Me, Frankfurt, Germany (2023); UTA Art Space, Atlanta, CA (2022). He has been included in numerous group exhibitions at MUZEO Museum and Cultural Center, Anaheim, CA (2024); F2T Gallery, Milan, Italy (2023); New York Culture Club, New York, NY (2022); Over the Influence, Los Angeles, CA (2022), among others.
Dominique Clayton is an arts consultant, writer, gallerist born and raised in Los Angeles. Clayton is the founder of Dominique Gallery, a storefront turned pop-up exhibition and online program which showcases and advises emerging artists with a focus on marginalized artists and artists raising families. Additionally, Clayton also serves on the curatorial and programming committee of Destination Crenshaw, a forthcoming outdoor art museum and arts program based in the historic Crenshaw community of Los Angeles.
Clayton previously worked as Manager of the Founding Director’s office at The Broad and later as an interim director at Jeffrey Deitch Gallery. In her arts management role, she has provided logistical, curatorial, and production management for exhibitions and productions for arts organizations and media companies including The Broad, ARRAY, WACO Theater Center and Wearable Art Gala, Venice Family Clinic Art Walk and Auction, Fashion Mamas, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Dance Africa Festival, Black Entertainment Television, Lee Daniels Entertainment, and the Tribeca Film Institute. Clayton was also a 2019-2020 participant in the Creative Capital/Warhol Foundation Art Writer Workshop under the mentorship of the late Maurice Berger. Her arts writing has been featured on several platforms and publications including Cultured Magazine, LALA Magazine, Artsy, Sugarcane Magazine, Blavity, and her own forthcoming Black Arts Diary. Clayton holds a masters degree in Business Design and Arts Leadership from Savannah College of Art and Design as well as an undergraduate degree from Columbia University.
