Vielmetter Los Angeles invites guests to gather in honor of artist Steve Roden on the occasion of his tribute solo exhibition, floating over the silent world.

Michael Ned Holte and Alison O’Daniel will remember their mutual friend and collaborator Steve Roden with a program of words, images, sounds, and a conversation.

Michael Ned Holte is a writer, curator, and educator living in Los Angeles. Since 2009, he has been a member of the faculty of the Program in Art at CalArts, and he currently serves as an Associate Dean of the School of Art. He is the author of Good Listener: Meditations on Music and Pauline Oliveros, forthcoming from Sming Sming Books. His collaborations with Steve Roden include the exhibition and publication when words become forms, Pomona College Museum of Art, 2010, and a reconsideration of Allan Kaprow’s 18 Happenings in Six Parts, at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE) in 2008.

Alison O’Daniel is a d/Deaf visual artist and filmmaker. Her film The Tuba Thieves was written in response to original music composed by Steve Roden. It premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and was broadcast on Independent Lens on PBS in 2024. O’Daniel is a United States Artist 2022 Disability Futures Fellow and a 2022 Guggenheim Fellow in Film/Video. She is represented by Commonwealth and Council in Los Angeles and is an Associate Professor of Film at California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
