PRESS RELEASE Brenna Youngblood December 16 – January 20, 2006 Reception: Saturday, December 16, 6 - 8 pm Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new work by Brenna Youngblood in the project space. Youngblood’s work fuses painting and photography into densely layered collages. Based on a keen interest in the relationship between the two media, Youngblood uses her photographs of details from interior spaces, such as light bulbs and electrical outlets, to blend with layers of paper, acrylic, and spray paint into dynamic paintings. Sometimes integrating other found materials, Youngblood creates a surface patina that reflects both a rich painterly exploration and an intimate experience of the used. Brenna Youngblood graduated with a MFA from UCLA this year and she received her BFA from the California State University Long Beach. Her work has been shown in a solo project at the Hammer Museum this year and she has been included in “Locale”, curated by Kris Kuramitsu at Margo Leavin Gallery, Los Angeles; in “Effacé”, curated by Malik Gaines, at the Steve Turner Gallery, Los Angeles; and in “New American Talent: the 21st Exhibition”, curated by Aimee Chang, Arthouse at the Jones Center, Austin, TX. Her work will be shown in a solo exhibition at the Wignall Museum at Chaffey College, Rancho Cucamonga. |
