In the project space, Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects is pleased to introduce Alexander Wolff. The artist deals with different approaches exploring possibilities of art production. The exhibition’s starting point is a curtain, that Alexander Wolff has produced as a backdrop for the dance piece “DANCE (impracticable)”, 2006, of the French dancer/performer Frederic Gies. The backdrop defines a structure in which a random order of combinations is possible within a general set-up. This set-up is called Body Mind Centering technique, and generates body movement through the perception of body fluids and joints. This concept is opposed with Labanotation, a sign language that Hungarian/German dancer and dance theorist Rudolf von Laban invented to describe all possible body movements.
Through his work, Alexander Wolff questions how a framework creates conditions for artistic production. Furthermore, he examines what the essential elements are that constitute a framework as such.
Alexander Wolff was born 1976 in Osterburg, Germany, and studied at the Städelschule Frankfurt and at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Portikus, Frankfurt, at the 7th International Biennale Istanbul, at the Kunsthalle Exnergasse, Vienna, at Galerie Mezzanin, Vienna, at Flaca Gallery, London, at the Halle Zeitgenössischer Kunst, Münster, and at the Museum Moderner Kunst, Vienna.
